bread and butter pudding is a afters my mum used to make for us regularly when i was a kid. she layered bread that was spread with butter and jam into a casserole dish, scattered through with sultanas, poured a milky eggy mixture over it all, sprinkled it with coconut and baked it until the top layer of bread was crispy. it seemed from A to Z C. she would then serve it with cold drain and a sprinkle of sugar. i loved the differ of crunchy and soft, marketable and remote.i have fond memories but so many recipes i see have lots of eggs in them which isn’t my systematize of thing. however the past year or so of blogging has given me hope. i have come across many versions of this afters that have piqued my influence. i have been particularly attracted to ones filled with fruit and chocolate. i much the same as the advantage of different sorts of breads. and they have very little, if any, eggs. here is a beadroll of some of the puddings have inspired me to rethink bread and butter pudding.- sweet bread puddings with condensed exploit, peanut butter and plums by evelin at bounteous bites- mixed berry and unblemished chocolate bread pudding by mansi at food and fun-banana choc bread pudding from isa and terry in veganomicon (sourced at http://www.veganrecipes.com/)- panettone bread pudding by dhivya at culinary bazaar- raisin bread pudding by gigi from gigi cakes- french toast souffle with summer berries by ricki at sweet, slim and dogsthere is moderately a variety here. from gigi’s fairly traditional variation to ricki’s vegan breakfast oblation that was not even intended as a pudding. but what they all have in common is baked soggy bread. doesn’t sound very appetizing when you defer it like that, does it?in fact, point of view about bread and butter pudding, i got to thinking about soggy bread and wondering why people started eating it in the anything else place. was the bread so dry our ancestors not quite stony-broke their teeth? did they overcook it (too much wood on the fire) or had it even-handed been sitting around instead of weeks? i can only think they requisite induce been desperate.i don’t adore soggy bread, myself. my mother loves making summer pudding these days not something she ever made when i was a adolescent. it is a cold pudding of bread and berries packed into a pudding basin to reach a given berry soggy mess. ugh! but this christmas i in fine inaugurate a summer pudding i liked. it was made with panettone. you know the italian bread that is light and fluffy with citrus peel by virtue of it? my mother always had at least one thither the house during christmas. well, i have discovered that it tastes so suitable, it neck is perfectly palatable when soggy.this year in april mum gave me some of the remnants of a panettone still leftover from christmas. i decided i would try a bread and butter pudding. i looked over all these wonderful recipes i had collected. like a magpie, i collected the bits that interested me. i envisaged my panettone being drowned in a warm gooey berry and chocolate sauce rather than a custard. in what i simulate is part of the pudding’s traditions, i used up berries from the freezer, egg yolks from the fridge and surplus condensed milk.the pudding was good but didn’t quite trial the image in my mind. it was drowned but not quite as mushy as i had hoped. i had mixed feelings about it. it was just a little soggy for my liking when i served it the first night. the second dusk it was firmer and most delicious. then it

9 Ways to Save on Gas This Summer (Ford, Honda Motor) at SmartMoney.com

WITH GAS PRICES edging ever closer to $4 a gallon, it’s little surprise that many would-be vacationers plan to postpone their road trips this summer.

“This is basically a price issue,” says Mike Pina, a spokesman for AAA, which predicts that fewer drivers will take to the road throughout the summer months. “Consumers are stuck with high fuel prices, higher airfares which are due to higher fuel prices and a softening economy.”

For those who still plan on braving the highways, the usual tactics shopping around for cheaper gas or using a gas rewards credit card will prove much less effective than in years past. Instead, the only way drivers will see any substantial fuel savings is to stay on top of their car’s maintenance and start driving more conscientiously.

“You can’t control prices at the pump, but you do have some control over how much fuel you use,” says Rozanne Weissman, a spokeswoman for the Alliance to Save Energy. The nonprofit recently launched the Drive Smarter Challenge, a web site that helps consumers figure out how much they can save annually, just by changing their driving habits. “When you add these seemingly small things together, it adds up to hundreds of dollars in savings.”

And while it’s impossible to alter your car in a way that would increase its fuel economy beyond the manufacturer’s estimated mileage per gallon the Environmental Protection Agency has tested and dismissed hundreds of products that claim to do just that you can get your car back in top-notch shape and maximize its fuel efficiency. Here’s what you can do and how much you can save:

Check your tires: $29Under- or overinflated tires change the way a car handles, both adding drag and accelerating wear, says Weissman. That, in turn, reduces fuel efficiency by 3.3%, according to the Alliance to Save Energy. Look at your driver’s side door panel or owner’s manual to find out the proper inflation for your tires and make sure to check the pressure at least once a month. Over the course of 4,500 miles of summer driving, a 2008 Acura RL owner could save $29.

Forgo premium fuel: $86Unless you drive a Dodge Viper or other high-end sports car that lists premium fuel as a requirement in its owner’s manual, you should use regular unleaded gas, says Phil Reed, consumer advice editor for Edmunds.com. “[Premium fuel] boosts engine performance, but not fuel economy,” he says. “The savings in price would be far greater.” Someone in California, for example, filling his 2008 Saab 9-3 weekly with $3.98-a-gallon unleaded (87 octane) instead of $4.31 premium (91 octane) would save $86 over the course of the summer.

Get a tune-up: $129“Maintaining your vehicle is one of the most important things you can do to aid fuel efficiency,” says Shruti Vaidyanathan, principle vehicle analyst for the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy. A faulty engine can reduce fuel economy by 4%, for example, while a clogged air filter knocks off about 10%, according to FuelEconomy.gov, a Department of Energy-sponsored site. Fixing up a 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan before driving 4,500 miles over the summer saves $129.

Change Your Behavior

Driving responsibly is the key to reaping some of the fastest and most substantial gas savings, says Reed. But only if you practice these driving behaviors consistently. Here’s how:

Slow down: $95If you speed, you might as well be paying $4 a gallon (or more) for gas. Every five miles per hour you drive above the speed limit adds 20 cents per gallon to your fuel bill, according to the Alliance to Save Energy. A 2008 Mazda CX-7 owner who consistently drives 10 miles above the speed limit over 4,500 miles of summer driving, for example, will pay an extra $95. Don’t trust yourself to stay within the limit? Use cruise control.

It’s been a crazy ride this season that I know we’ve all enjoyed, and I think this finale will be one of the closest in Idol history. I can’t wait to find out who the next American Idol to make their mark in the entertainment industry is going to be, but I think that, ultimately, it’s going to wind up being both of them!
