Preschoolers at ECDC Nursery School in Sherborn enjoyed a fun visit from state Sen. Scott Brown, R-Wrentham, on Wednesday, April 16. Brown read books to the children, including classroom favorites “Baby Bear, Baby Bear What Do You See”and “Legs and Eggs.”The special reading at ECDC was organized by the Charles River Partnership in honor of national “Week of the Young Child.”

Every student at Pine Hill School participated in the Earth Day Groceries Project this year. This project was started by Mark Ahlness a third-grade teacher from Seattle, Wash., in 1993. The first year, 43 schools participated and more than 10,000 students across the U.S. and Canada decorated 13,000 Earth Day Bags. Since then, students from every state in America and 34 foreign countries have joined this project. Last year, 132,561 bags were decorated. Schools can register on a web site to be counted as participants.

Sarah Richards, Pine Hill School’s art specialist, borrowed grocery bags from Roche Brothers store in Natick. Students in grades K-5 created messages on the bags that show we care about our environment. The bags were returned to Roche Brothers and distributed to customers for Earth Day on April 22.

It’s time to dig and divide perennials taking over your spring garden. And the Sherborn Library would love your extras.
The Friends of the Sherborn Library is accepting all kinds of plant donations for its annual plant sale fundraiser at the Arts & Crafts Fair on Saturday, May 10.
In addition to hostas, daylilies and other perennials, they’re accepting annuals, shrubs, herbs and small trees.
Drop off donations on Friday, May 9, at the library, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Or, call Mary Moore for pick-up, 508-655-4504.
sherborn recycling committee trap orientation
The Sherborn Recycling Committee is proud to announce that its Web site has been remodeled after a long period of dormancy. Dianne Veitch, a former resident of Sherborn, has given it a fresh new look and will keep it up to date from now on.
New content will continue to be added, but even in its inaugural stage, there are enough facts and details and news for any information junkie to be happy with. walking tour of hodgson homes
Paul H. Tedesco, co-author with his son, James, of “Portable and Prefabricated Houses of the Thirties,” completed an architectural walking tour of Hodgson Houses with an appreciative group of 16 on April 5. Tedesco has announced that he will repeat the tour on Saturdays, May 3 and June 21.
The tour group will assemble at the Sawin Museum, Dover Center, at 1 p.m. on May 3 and June 21. There are no reservations; just appear dressed and ready to walk about 2 miles; the tour will take about 90 minutes. Inclement weather will cancel the tour.

Prior to the tour, walkers may visit the Hodgson Family and E.F. Hodgson Company Exhibit in the Sawin Museum. Tedesco will have copies of “Portable and Prefabricated Houses of the Thirties” for sale.
This is a wonderful opportunity to see and discuss an American first, an affordable portable and prefabricated factory-built housing used all over the world. Donations will be accepted. The Hodgson House was also an important part of the Dover economy from 1892-1944.
spring yard sale at st. theresa’s
Warmer weather is finally here, and it is time to prepare for a Spring Yard Sale at St. Theresa Parish, 35 South Main St., Sherborn, on Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., with a barbecue lunch available from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The church welcomes donations for the yard sale, so clean out your attic and basement and join us. Items needed include household goods and furniture, toys and games, videos, CDs and computer software, glassware and dishes. The church asks that all items are clean and in good working condition. Please, no clothing or books.
